The University Museum System of Siena was established in 2007 with the aim of standing for and coordinating the historical-cultural heritage of the University, meant as ensemble of the realities of historical, artistic, scientific, archaeologic, naturalistic interest, as well as of the archives and the single documents of historical interest in the University.








 

The activities:

  • It promotes the preservation of the historical, artistic, scientific, archaeologic and naturalistic heritage of the university;
  • It promotes and cares for the identification, enhancement, and possible acquisition of historical material present at the scientific and didactic structures of the university, as well as at other national and international museums and that can be traced back to the centuries-old history of the Athenaeum;
  • It promotes and cares for the activities to preserve the heritage of the university;
  • It defines and promotes the criteria for the programs of cataloguing in concordance with the Central Institute for Cataloguing and Documentation, according to the norms;
  • It promotes the publications of catalogs and other scientific and spreading literature;
  • It promotes and coordinates the activities for both permanent and temporary expositions, both for aims of scientific research, didactic activities and education in schools;
  • It promotes and coordinates the participation of the university into local, regional, national, and international projects of museology and it manages the relations with external stakeholders 
  • It promotes and coordinates the didactic activity aiming to the spread of knowledge about the university cultural heritage among pupils and students of every age;
  • Within the limits and the conditions drawn by the Regulation for Administration, Finance, and Accountability and by the University rules, it can propose contracts and conventions with public and private institutions, as well as promote external collaborations, advices, participations to cultural and educational projects or activities organized by others;
  • It promotes the staff’s education and updating in accordance with the University educational plan;
  • It periodically relates to the Rector about the activities and it pre-emptively informs the university government bodies about the undertakings of general interest for the university.
